The one name that Dow Medical College can be proud of is Professor Mahmud Ali Shah. It was due to his efforts and his wife’s, Prof Mubarika Shah that the Anatomy department was curated which was one of the preconditions for recognition of the College by Bombay University. He was Professor of Ophthalmology and served as the Principal of Dow Medical College (for fourteen years) from 26 May 1955 to 29 September 1969. In addition, was an honorary Rear Admiral of the Pakistan Navy.
