  1. ASA. I cannot forget our esteemed mentors & teachers !
I can never forget Dr Akhter Ahmed marhoom.May Allah SWT rest his soul in peace & forgive him. Amen.
Marhoom was a great disciplinarian & academician. I remember that in our Neurology posting in 3rd/4th year, once during the clinical round I was told to get out of the patient’s room as I was talking to my colleague,as it caused interference in the teaching.
In the same rotation at another instance there was an in-ward case presentation by the then residents. During the examination of the patient there was a need of measuring tape for muscle bulk measurement. All in the hall were asked if anyone had it. Immediately, my hand went into my pocket & then handed over the tape to serve the purpose. Dr Akhter Sb marhoom was impressed & gave me a paper mentioning my name & the reason for giving it to me. He told me that on final evaluation I would be awarded additional marks. But I forgot to carry the slip in my final ward test. I still remember that I used to keep that paper in my memoirs for a long time.
I can also recollect my final year days, when I had participated in the Dow annual symposium. My study topic was ‘Eating habits amongst school children in Karachi’. Dr Akhter Ahmed was the adjudicator & had awarded me a special prize on my presentation.
May Allah SWT bless all our great departed teachers, who were truly the ‘Nation builders’.
    Amen.

  2. Dr. Akhtar Ahmed was my maternal uncle I mean he was my mother’s brother. He died of Alzheimer’s and my mother could not bear the loss of her brother’s death and passed just a few weeks back. He educated me and all my educational expenses were taken care of by him. It is not just me who owes him a lot there are countless families that were taken care of by him in all possible ways. He was a great son as my parents tell me how he used to take of his mother whom he fondly called “Amma”. He was a thorough gentleman, extremely decent and yes conservative too. I am at a loss of words when it comes to him. He refused to move out of Nazimabad though he could afford to live anywhere in Karachi and would say I will both live and die in Nazimabad and yes he died in Nazimabad.

  3. Dr. Prof. Ahmed Ahmed was a legend but for me and my family he was a mesiah. In 1991 my father got severely ill and doctors could not diagnose his illness. A family friend persuaded Prof. Dr. S. M. Rab to visit my father and he diagnosed that my father was suffering from T. B. Meningitis. Prof Rab advised us to consult Dr Akhtar for my fathers neurological problems. Both the legends brought mack father back and because of them both he is Masha Allah alive today. Prof Akhtar was a very humble person and always gave proper time to his patients. May Allah bless his soul and grant him highest ranks with Jannah.
